Within companies there is a need for information to fulfill the activities. This need for information is always around, it doesn’t differs if it’s a large company or a small company. So within companies there has to be a way to get the information that you need to fulfill your work. This could be done with several ways like, direct vocal communication, by mail, by telephone, by fax, internet and intranet. With these and new techniques you can get easier and faster the information that you need, but there are still some obstacles that can influence the information need. The question that we can ask is, is all the information that is needed within reach for the employees or is there a long way to get the right information.
We want to research if the information need is influenced by the Powerdistance and information infrastructure within a company. Besides that we want to measure if there is a difference between large and small companies and between The Netherlands en South Africa.
To get answers on these questions we are going to interview a total of sixteen employees and another sixteen employees has been asked to fill in a questionnaire. These employees are divided over eight companies (four companies in South Africa and four companies in The Netherlands).
