Twelve days we have spent in China. Monday evening, after a very long flight, our plane landed safely at Schiphol airport. It was a brilliant trip, where we learned a lot and saw a lot of new things. For or all, this has been a very special experience. Without the support from the university, our sponsors, friends and family it would not have been possible.

Now, the next deadline is coming. The seminar, which will be organized on the 15th of April is coming up fast. So, while we are working hard, be sure to tick it off in your agenda and be there!

We will work hard to get you nice presentations, pictures, movies and all that you need to get a good idea of what our experiences were in China!

The first two days

It is saturday morning now, and I am having breakfast with Koen and Simone.

When we arrived thursday, we took the bus to the hotel and checked in. That evening, we went for our first Chinese dinner, with some drinks in the hotel afterwards.

The next day we visited the university for the first time. We met students, and talked a lot about our research and life. Most students have an English as well as a Chinese name and were very interested in tall, white men like Robbin, Daan and the others. That evening, we had dinner again, and some students visited the town.

Today, we will visit a market and the city. Tomorrow, we will see the city!

We’re almost going

Just a little over two weeks and the trip will start. All the passports are back from the Chinese Embassy, and we all have a visum! Now the time is there for some last-minute preparation. Nobody forget to pack your toothbrush!

A visit to Deloitte

On Wednesday, February 2nd the whole studytrip visited one of our sponsors, Deloitte for a tour around the office, their huge building in Rotterdam. It was a very cool visit and we have seen a lot. You can see some pictures under media.

India 2009 – Study trip

In previous years we visited Uganda, India and South-Africa. This year we’re travelling to India again to take a look at ICT in a different culture. The philosophy behind the course is that the studytrip is such that graduate students from computer and information science get the opportunity to get an international experience that is related to their theoretical work till then.

South Africa 2008 – Study trip

As the previous two years also this year a studytour for our Mastercourse ‘ICT in a different culture’ is planned.
The first year ‘Uganda’ was the target country and last year it was India.
Goals and mission of this study tour are to study ICT in a totally different environment and context then what students are used to. It will require a lot of creativity, understanding, flexibility and insight to cope with the challanges encountered to study and work on a project in another culture.
For Information and Computer Science students it will give a wonderful opportunity to gain some relevant international experiences related to our their theoretical study.

India 2007 – Study trip

Naar aanleiding van de studiereis vorig jaar naar Oeganda is er een studiereiscommissie opgezet. Deze commissie is bezig een studiereis te organiseren naar India. Doel van deze studiereis is onder andere om de student een bredere kijk op de maatschappij mee te geven en het eigen vakgebied (ICT) vanuit diverse perspectieven te laten bestuderen. Er zal een gevarieerd (wetenschappelijk, maatschappelijk en sociaal/cultureel) programma worden samengesteld.

Oeganda 2006 – Study trip

Het onderzoeks- en onderwijsinstituut Informatica en Informtiekunde heeft, naar aanleiding van een bestaand en succesvol samenwerkingsverband met de Makerere University in Oeganda, een plan ontwikkeld om een studiereis te organiseren naar Oeganda. Doel van deze studiereis is onder andere om de student een bredere kijk op de maatschappij mee te geven en het eigen vakgebied (ICT) vanuit diverse perspectieven te laten bestuderen.
Er wordt een gevarieerd (wetenschappelijk, maatschappelijk en sociaal/cultureel) programma van 10 dagen samengesteld waarbij ook een ‘wild life safari’ tot de mogelijkheden behoort.
